Call for Applications – Public Interest Representative

The Lake Erie Region Source Protection Committee (SPC) is seeking applications for a public interest member to represent environmental, health and other interests of the general public, starting September 2025. The deadline to apply is June 29, 2025.

We thank all applicants for their interest in joining the SPC. Only successful applicants will be contacted regarding next steps in the selection process.

Role of Committee members:

The Lake Erie Region SPC is responsible for providing direction and oversight for the creation and administration of the Assessment Report and Source Protection Plan for four source protection areas within Lake Erie Region (Grand River, Long Point Region, Catfish Creek, and Kettle Creek), as per the Clean Water Act, 2006.

The Assessment Reports and Plans were approved by the Province in 2015/2016, and the committee's role is to continue to guide the collaborative process that identifies the sources of drinking water, the threats to both water quality and water supplies, develop the programs and policies that will reduce the risks to drinking water sources and report on implementation of source protection plan policies.

Minimum commitments:

  • participate fully and work collaboratively towards positive solutions;
  • regularly attend meetings (approximately 4 to 5 half-day meetings per year) for a term of four years;
  • abide by the Rules of Procedure, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies; and
  • maintain the confidentiality of certain information, as appropriate.

Eligibility criteria to apply:

  • reside in, own or rent property within the Lake Erie Source Protection Region; OR
  • be employed or operate a business within the Lake Erie Source Protection Region; OR
  • be employed by a municipality that is part of the Lake Erie Source Protection Region; AND
  • not be a member or employee of a conservation authority within the Lake Erie Source Protection Region.
