Public comments invited on updates to the Drinking Water Source Protection Plan for the Grand River watershed

CORRECTION: The below news release has been updated to reflect that one of the proposed updates to the Grand River Source Protection Plan will also affect the Township of Mapleton.

Members of the public are invited to read and comment on the Draft Updated Drinking Water Source Protection Plan for the Grand River watershed. The plan has been prepared under the Clean Water Act, 2006 to protect municipal sources of drinking water and ensure their sustainable use into the future.

The Grand River Source Protection Plan was approved by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks in November, 2015. The Source Protection Program is designed with continuous improvements in mind. Updates to the Plan are now proposed as a result of the completion of a number of technical studies. The proposed updates affect several municipalities in the Grand River watershed, including the cities of Cambridge and Kitchener, as well as the townships of Centre Wellington, Mapleton, Puslinch and Woolwich.

Learn more about the Plan

The draft updated plan is now available for review online at www.sourcewater.ca/GR-SPP-Update. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, viewing the Plan in person is not currently possible.
