Am I Affected?
A source protection plan may affect you if you own property near a municipal well or a surface water intake that is within a vulnerable area.
Examples of vulnerable areas include:
- Wellhead Protection Areas (WHPA),
- Intake Protection Zones (IPZ), and
- Issue Contributing Areas (ICA).
The plans show the location of these vulnerable areas and list the different types of human activities taking place within those areas that may be a threat to municipal drinking water sources. The plans also list policies and programs to help manage the risk posed by the most significant threats, and to stop new threats from developing.
Provincial mapping tool - Source Protection Information Atlas
The Source Protection Information Atlas (SPIA) is an online tool maintained by the Province.
SPIA can be used to:
- search by location to identify if a property is located in a vulnerable area
- view a list of human activities that may be a threat to municipal drinking water sources within a vulnerable area
- view source protection plan policies for the relevant municipality
Ask your municipality
Municipalities implement many of the policies and programs in the plans. See our list of links to municipal websites to contact your municipality for more information.
