Members of the public are invited to attend a public open house on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, Arena Lounge (182 South Drive, Simcoe) to learn more about proposed updates to the Long Point Region Source Protection Plan.
“The open house will provide an opportunity to review the draft water quantity policy approaches for Simcoe,” says Martin Keller, Source Protection Program Manager, Lake Erie Source Protection Region. “While there will be no formal presentation, landowners and members of the public will have an opportunity to view information display boards and speak one-on-one with project staff. Anyone interested in the project is welcome to attend.”
The policy approaches have been prepared under the Clean Water Act, 2006 in collaboration with Norfolk County staff to protect municipal sources of drinking water and ensure their sustainable use into the future.
The Long Point Region Source Protection Plan was approved by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change in November 2015. Since then, a scientific study has been conducted in Long Point Region to provide a measured assessment of current and future sustainability of municipal drinking water systems in light of municipal growth and development and climate change, such as drought. Water quantity policy approaches for Simcoe have been drafted in response to the results and recommendations of that study.
